District Profile

The South Whittier School District, which is governed by the South Whittier Board of Trustees, serves about 3,900 students in grades K-8 on eight campuses - seven elementary schools and one middle school. After successfully completing 8th grade, South Whittier students transition to schools within the Whittier Union High School District to complete grades 9-12.

South Whittier offers a rigorous curriculum that stresses reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social science, technology, the arts, and health/fitness. All text books and instruction are aligned with the State standards. Our highly qualified teachers meet with the instructional teams from the high school district to ensure the middle school curriculum readies students for high school success.

Visit any one of our eight campuses and you’ll immediately know why the South Whittier School District is a special place of caring and commitment. Teachers know their students by name and greet them with enthusiasm. Parents feel welcome and volunteer their time, making our PTAs among the strongest in the region. Establishing and sustaining a caring connection with every student and parent ensures no child is left behind.
