Los Altos Celebrates Remodel With Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Los Altos Elementary school held their Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, October 25, to celebrate their newly remodeled administration office.

All Los Altos’ students, many parents, community members, teachers, South Whittier administration, school board members, Whittier Chamber of Commerce, and others were in attendance.

Los Altos’ principal, Genevieve Silebi, addressed attendees. She thanked everyone for coming to support Los Altos, shared about the remodel, and announced the exciting news that Los Altos will be incorporating a Dual Language Immersion Program beginning next school year.

The ceremony also included South Whittier School District superintendent, Dr. Gonzales, and associate superintendent of business services, Mark Keriakous. They both spoke and thanked key partners, and individuals that made this remodel happen.

After the ceremony the community was invited to tour the new administration building and enjoy coffee and refreshments.

Los Altos received a remodel that changed where the entrance of the administration office is located. Previously the entrance was located inside of school gates, now the entrance of the school office is located in the front of the school that allows for a more secure campus. These changes were done to assure that all visitors are properly screened before entering the school.

Los Altos Elementary was able to make the necessary improvements because of BOND Measure QS. South Whittier School District was successful at the “Bond Election” that took place back in November of 2016. It was that election that issued up to a $29 million aggregated principal amount of the district’s general obligation bonds, or “Measure QS”. The district also has a BOND Oversight Committee whose purpose is to review district expenditures of bond proceeds generated under Measure QS.

The community can follow along with the district’s latest projects, before and after photos, and audit reports on their website.
