Instructional Coaches Support Student Learning Presentation
South Whittier School District’s Instructional Coaches, Kathie Kivi, Tiffany Baides, Jan Tyrone, Tammy Keiser, and Elisebel Santos-Scott, shared a presentation with the school board about what their role is as coaches and how they support teachers and student learning.
The coaches shared about their strategy to implementing new initiatives called their Learning Implementation Cycle. This cycle consists of rolling out new initiatives, having site-based follow-ups, classroom applications, data analysis, concluding next steps, then starting the whole process over to continue improvement.
They went on to discuss how they implemented Cognitive Guided Instruction, or CGI, district wide. They have implemented PDAR, plan, do, analyze, and reflect, with teachers helping to reflect and collaborate towards continued improvement. They also shared how they use data from formative and summative assessments to gain insight into student performance.
The next board meeting will be held Tuesday, June 19, at 6 PM at the district office.
