Graves Middle School AVID 8th Graders Visit Pioneer High School

Graves Middle School 8th grade AVID students visited Pioneer High School Thursday, January 18, to learn about their high school AVID program.

Like Graves Middle School, Pioneer High School is also an AVID Demonstration Site. AVID at the high school level focuses on preparing academic instruction and support, preparing students to be eligible to attend a four-year university, equip students with college level entry skills, and increase students level of career awareness.

"We love giving our AVID students the opportunity to visit Pioneer High School's outstanding AVID program.  Pioneer High is also an AVID National Demonstration Site and our kids have had great experiences there,” Graves’ principal, Dr. Matt Fraijo stated.

Participating in AVID in high school gives students the opportunity to visit college campuses, interact with guest speakers, participate in community activities as well as extracurriculars, develop success strategies, work on their writing skills, learn from college tutors, and lastly, apply for college.

“We want to give our kids the opportunity to continue their AVID experience in high school so they go straight to a four-year university after high school.  We have a great partnership with Pioneer and love working with them,” said Dr. Fraijo.
