South Whittier School District held its monthly board meeting on Tuesday, April 15, in person in the district board room and via Google Meet.
The Board and attendees heard three presentations, including a Lake Marie School & Academic Achievement Report, Leveraging AI and Technology in South Whittier, and an overview of the CAASPP system.
Lake Marie Elementary School Student & Academic Achievement Report
Lake Marie Principal, Ms. Eazor, opened her presentation by awarding a student from each class at Lake Marie who displayed their monthly character trait, perseverance.

After recognizing students, Ms. Eazor gave a presentation about Lake Marie's academic achievement. She began by sharing the school's CAASPP data and comparing the yearly scores. After sharing the data, she talked about Lake Marie's action plan to continue to support students and help them achieve and meet standards. This support includes teacher collaboration, assessments to monitor progress, address learning gaps, activate best practices, foundational skills, and much more.
After discussing their action plan, she shared Lake Marie's team's goals of building a foundation together. This foundation included collective commitment, activating student-centered best practices, quality control on their multi-tiered system, partnering with families, and more.
Leveraging AI & Technology in South Whittier
Associate Superintendent of Ed Services, Dr. Rebecca Rodriguez, and Technology TOSA, Dalley Wright, gave a presentation on AI and technology and how that is being implemented throughout the district.
Ms. Wright began her presentation by sharing their mission to be committed to future-ready learning and ensure that all students develop digital literacy and skills. They will also support teachers with the right tools and training to integrate technology effectively in the classroom and beyond.
Ms. Wright shared how technology can support teachers by assisting in lesson planning, differentiation, and assessments. She then shared how the district will support staff with professional development to use these tools safely and effectively.
Overview of the CAASPP System
Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Parent Engagement, Dr. Reanna Mendoza, gave a presentation on CAASPP.
Dr. Mendoza explained CAASPP, the California Assessment of Student Progress and Performance, who takes the test, on what subjects, and the purpose of tests. She then shared how they support students' success and the logistics of testing windows. Lastly, she spoke about district scores in English Language Arts and Math from 2023 to 2024 and compared recent scores with pre-COVID scores to monitor progress and gains.
