Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Visits McKibben Elementary

McKibben Elementary had a visit from Cabrillo Marine Aquarium on Friday, March 7th, to learn all about sea life with hands-on experiences.

Marine biologists from Cabrillo Marine Aquarium held assemblies for all grade levels teaching students about marine life, their life cycle, habitats, and more. All Cabrillo Marine Aquarium programs are designed to be hands-on, with a focus on local southern California marine life, and are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Each assembly incorporated interpretive exhibits and seawater laboratories.

The assembly began with a lesson about sea life and specifically, the star fish. They learned all about where a star fish lives and how and what they eat. They then were able to look at the interpretive exhibit which included life size replicas of sea animals to touch and observe.

Students then moved on to the seawater laboratories. Here they got to touch live sea animals that included sea urchins, star fish, sea cucumbers, and others. They also got to see some jellyfish up close.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is a public aquarium in the San Pedro, California. The aquarium is a home for some sea animals as well as a hub of educational programs for the public.
