All SWSD School’s Receive Statewide PBIS Recognition

All six South Whittier School District schools have been awarded a statewide recognition for their exceptional PBIS implementation by the California PBIS Recognition System.

PBIS stands for positive behavioral interventions and support. This statewide recognition acknowledges schools for implementing PBIS with “fidelity to the national framework.” Schools are awarded with a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum recognition. McKibben, Los Altos, and Graves Middle School have all received Silver Recognition while Lake Marie, Loma Vista, and Carmela Elementary have received Gold.

"We are proud to announce that all of our schools have been recognized for their outstanding work in implementing the core features of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS),” Wellness Services Program Specialist, Cynthia Casebere, shared.

“As part of the California PBIS Recognition System, this recognition reflects our district’s commitment to excellence in creating positive and supportive school environments where all students succeed. Congratulations to all our PBIS Site Teams and all involved! We look forward to continuing to strengthen our systems to assure that we are providing equitable support to all students.”

Schools are awarded with this prestigious recognition based off rigorous criteria regarding their implementation of the PBIS systems and support. PBIS is evidence-based behavioral practices and systems that is organized into an integrated collection or Multi-Tier System of Supports Framework in which students experience supports based on their behavioral responsiveness to intervention.

PBIS implementations are evidence based practices to help develop a safe, equitable, and positive climate and social culture for all students. “A three-tiered prevention logic requires that all students receive supports at the universal or primary tier. If the behavior of some students is not responsive, more intensive behavioral supports are provided, in the form of a group contingency (selected or secondary tier) or a highly individualized plan (intensive or tertiary tier).”

Each school site has worked diligently through professional development, implementation, and evaluation to implement PBIS practices to support students at all levels including academics, behavior, and social-emotional wellness.

Congratulations to all!
