SWSD September Board Meeting Recap

South Whittier School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, September 10th, in-person in the district board room and via Zoom.

The Board and attendees heard two presentations. The first presentation was an Above & Beyond Award recognition and the second was a 2023-2024 Unaudited Actuals report.

Above & Beyond Award Recognition

This month SWSD Superintendent, Dr. Gonzales, honored three individuals who all went above & beyond during this current heatwave.

The individuals recognized were Ian Gujardo, Director - Facilities, Maintenance & Operations, Kent Burrows, Supervisor - Maintenance, and Noah Alvarado, Maintenance Worker.

Two South Whittier schools were undergoing electrical and air conditioning issues while there was a major heatwave that had temperatures reaching 105 degrees. The district was ready to cancel school as there was potentially not going to be any AC in classrooms, but these three individuals worked tirelessly to fix the issues that allowed school to continue and SWSD students to continue to learn.

Thank you Ian, Kent, and Noah!

2023-2024 Unaudited Actuals Presentation

The Associate Superintendent of Business Services, Mr. Aubrey Craig, gave a presentation of the district’s 2023-2024 unaudited actuals.

The data shown in the presentation reflects the financial data of the district’s fiscal status as of June 30th. The presentation shared the district’s general fund revenues, expenditures, and fund balance. Mr. Craig then shared the unrestricted general fund balance revenue funds, expenditures, and balance. He shared multi-year projections and next steps the district is taking to ensure that the budget continues to remain in good standing.

The presentation concluded with next steps. This includes an independent audit report that will be done by an outside agency at the end of this year.

The district will hold their next board meeting on Tuesday, October 15th, at the district office and via Zoom.
