South Whittier School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, July 30, in-person at the district office and via Zoom.
The Board and attendees heard two presentations. First was a presentation of new school principals and a director, and an Above and Beyond Award presentation.
Presentation of New SWSD Administrators
SWSD Superintendent, Dr. Gary Gonzales, shared that this new school year South Whittier will have four new school principals, one new vice principal, and a new director.
He introduced each new administrator and gave them an opportunity to introduce themselves and share their background and goals for the new year.

McKibben Elementary — Principal: Christian Alcalá
Lake Marie Elementary — Principal: Linda Eazor
Carmela Elementary — Principal: Dr. Patricia Magaña

Above and Beyond Award
Carmela Elementary teacher, Carlo Rivera, was recognized with the Above and Beyond Award.
A colleague of Rivera’s wrote a letter nominating him for this award sharing how he continuously goes above and beyond for students and other teachers. They went on to say that he is very caring to not just his students but all Carmela students on campus. He also regularly helps less experienced teachers through various issues and has offered help to many teachers through his position as union president.
