South Whittier School District held a Volunteer Appreciation event and an Employee Recognition event to show gratitude and appreciation for volunteers and employees for their dedication this past school year.
Volunteer Appreciation Event
The SWSD Volunteer Appreciation event was held on Friday, May 17th, in the Graves Middle School Field House. This event invited all parent and community volunteers who dedicated time during this past school year.
The event began with refreshments and music by the Graves Middle School band. SWSD Superintendent, Dr. Gonzales, then welcomed attendees and gave words of appreciation and thanked volunteers for their time and dedication to students and expressed how their willingness to support students does not go unnoticed.
Attendees then got to hear from keynote speaker, Maria Serpas, who has worked with the district for the past two years strengthening parent engagement. She shared how volunteers are the heartbeat of the school community and continually show their children the importance of giving back.
The event closed with each school principal recognizing and honoring their volunteers while each volunteer received a thank you gift.
SWSD Annual Employee Recognition Event
SWSD held their Annual Employee Recognition event on Monday, May 20, in the Graves Middle School Field House.
This year’s event was baseball themed and all employees sported their favorite baseball gear! Lunch was also on theme with hot dogs, nachos, and ice cream sundaes served in mini baseball helmets.
After lunch attendees were greeted by Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Ayala. She welcomed everyone and gave kind words thanking everyone for their hard work and dedication through this school year.
During the event all employees who hit 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 year milestones were recognized. All retirees were also recognized and were given gifts. Lastly, the Teacher of the Year and Employee of the Year were awarded. Teacher of the Year was awarded to Ms. Flor Garcia from Loma Vista, and Employee of the Year was award to Ms. Brenda Venegas who is the District Community Liaison.
The event wrapped up with raffles, prizes, and lots of photos!
