Los Altos Elementary Hosts African American Cultural Fair

Los Altos Elementary held an African American Cultural Fair in support of Black History Month on Friday, February 16th, in their school multipurpose room.

Each grade level chose an African American figure, conducted research, and put together a project based on their chosen figure. During the fair, every table was set up to display each grade levels' art work and projects.

Some figures highlighted were Dr. Martin Luther King, Kobe Bryant, Ruby Bridges, Garrett Morgan, Jackie Robinson, Simone Biles, Whitney Houston, and Pele.

Each class was given the opportunity to attend the cultural fair and learn about different figures that other grade levels focused on. This was a great time for students to walk around, learn about impactful African American figures, and discuss each figures’ accomplishments and impact on their culture and community through other student’s artwork.

Black History Month is an annual celebration held from February 1 through March 1. This is a time to learn and celebrate achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.
