Los Altos Elementary Hosts Hispanic Cultural Fair

Los Altos Elementary School held a Hispanic Cultural Fair on Tuesday, October 10, at their school in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Hispanic Cultural Fair consisted of a variety of tables that highlighted a different historical hispanic figure. Each grade was in charge of learning, researching, and putting together these tables.

TK and kinder did their project on Cesar Chavez, first grade did Ellen Ochoa, third grade highlight Selena Quintanilla, fifth grade Sonia Sotomayor, just to name a few. Some other figures included were Frida Kahlo, Jose Hernandez, Dolores Huerta, Fernando Venezuela, and Diego Rivera.

The tables gave information on the highlighted figures life, their impact, and story of perseverance through writing and art.

On the day of the fair each grade level took turns walking through the fair, visiting each table, and learning about each historical figure.

Hispanic Heritage Month is held from September 15 to October 15 and celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to Hispanic Heritage Month.
