California PBIS Awards All South Whittier School District Schools With Statewide Recognition

South Whittier School District had all six of their schools receive California statewide recognition for their implementation of positive behavioral interventions and support, or better known as PBIS.

This statewide recognition acknowledges schools for implementing PBIS with “fidelity to the national framework.” Schools are recognized with Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. Lake Marie Elementary was recognized with Gold, and Los Altos, McKibben, Carmela, Loma Vista, and Graves Middle School were all recognized with Silver.

“This was possible due to everyone’s dedicated service, daily reinforcing our ROARS behavior expectations matrix, promoting a positive school climate; and so much more,” Lake Marie Elementary principal, Lisa Palomino, shared. “We are extremely proud of all of our students and staff for earning this award! A special thank you to our families on our PBIS team who were instrumental in advising our work.”

These schools were recognized based off rigorous criteria regarding their implementation of the PBIS systems and support. These implementations are evidence based practices to help develop a safe, equitable, and positive climate and social culture for all students.

PBIS is evidence-based behavioral practices and systems that is organized into an integrated collection or Multi-Tier System of Supports Framework in which students experience supports based on their behavioral responsiveness to intervention. “A three-tiered prevention logic requires that all students receive supports at the universal or primary tier. If the behavior of some students is not responsive, more intensive behavioral supports are provided, in the form of a group contingency (selected or secondary tier) or a highly individualized plan (intensive or tertiary tier).”

Congratulations to all South Whittier School District schools!
