SWSD Students Receive Free Target Vouchers Through Operation School Bell Program

South Whittier School District families were able to receive free Target vouchers through Operation School Bell on Wednesday, September 13, to purchase new school clothes at the Target in Santa Fe Springs.

Operation School Bell is a philanthropic program through the Assistance League of Whittier with funding from County Supervisor Janice Hahn. The Assistance League provides vouchers of a specified amount of money for eligible children in local school districts. At the event volunteers provide families with a voucher for each student to use on a specific date at one of two local Target stores who have agreed to participate in the program. Assistance League volunteers are in attendance at the event to help the families during the shopping experience. Students are able to use the vouchers on specified items that include clothes, undergarments, pajamas, and backpacks.

This year South Whittier School District was given funding for twenty-three elementary school students at $110 per child and nineteen middle school students at $130 per child. The families that are chosen to participate in this event are screened for eligibility through their school.

Operation School Bell is an annual event put on by the Assistance League.
