SWSD September Board Meeting Recap

South Whittier School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, September 12, at the district office.


This month the board and attendees heard four awards and a presentation. 

 

2023-2024 Teacher of the Year

 

South Whittier School District was pleased to announce and honor the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year, Carrie Galloway.

 

Ms. Galloway is a teacher at Loma Vista Elementary. Principal, Ms. Carreon, shared about how amazing Ms. Galloway’s impact on students and beyond has been and her amazing classroom atmosphere.

2023-2024 Classified Employee of the Year

 

South Whittier School District was pleased to announce and honor the 2023-2024 Classified Employee of the Year, Theresa Melgoza.

 

Ms. Melgoza is the community liaison at Loma Vista Elementary. Principal, Ms. Carreon shared how her outreach to parents has impacted families in a positive way.

2022-2023 California PBIS Implementation Awards

 

The board honored the SWSD schools that received California statewide recognition for their PBIS implementation.

 

California PBIS initiated their first statewide effort in 2015 to implement a recognition system to acknowledge schools for implementing PBIS with fidelity to the national framework. Schools may apply to be recognized as Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum PBIS schools. All SWSD schools have received Implementation Awards:

Above & Beyond Award

 

The teachers recognized for the Above & Beyond recognition are teachers that mentored, taught and nurtured their students resulting in increased student learning/achievement. Each of these teachers' preliminary CAASPP scores in math, ELA or both, reflect that at least 30% of their students scored at or above proficiency. The art of teaching is not easy and it is why we recognize our teachers for going Above and Beyond.

2022-2023 Unaudited Actuals Presentation

 

Associate Superintendent of Business Services, Aubrey Craig, gave the board and attendees a presentation regarding the 2022-2023 budget actuals.

 

The presentation went over actuals for the general fund, expenditures, estimated actuals and unaudited actuals, and the general fund balance.

 

The next steps regarding the budget is monitor enrollment, monitor and update budget and multi-year projections during the year, continue building and implementing multi-year budget stabilization plan, and an independent audit.

 

 

The district will hold their next board meeting on Tuesday, October 17, in-person and via Zoom in the district board room.
