SWSD March Board Meeting Recap

South Whittier School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, March 7th, in the district board room and via Zoom.

 

This month board members and attendees heard two presentations. First, was a presentation regarding student achievement at Loma Vista Elementary. Second, was the second interim report.

 

Loma Vista Elementary Student Achievement Report

 

Loma Vista Elementary principal, Christine Carreon, gave a presentation about student achievement. 

 

She began her presentation by sharing a school overview and gave some demographics regarding the student population. Carreon then shared the school attendance rate which is currently the highest in the district, with the daily attendance rate of 93.54%. She went on to share the school’s attendance monitoring plan and how they support chronic absentees. 

 

Carreon then jumped into LPAC, CASSPP, and Star 360 data for all students in reading and math. She shared Loma’s English Learner supports that are in place which includes designated ELD time. Lastly, she shared about their positive behavior intervention and supports, intervention supports, and after school supports. Some of their after school supports include chess club, robotics, and Loma is the home of South Whittier School District’s mariachi program.

 

Loma Vista Elementary has been a PBIS Silver award winner  in 2017 and 2022, has been a Project Lead the Way school since 2019, and is a 2021 Capturing Kids’ Hearts national showcase school.

 

Second Interim Report

 

Associate Superintendent of Business Services, Aubrey Craig, gave the second interim financial report. This report shares the district’s financial position as of January 31, 2023.

 

Craig gave an update to the district’s revenue and expenditure assumptions, and shared both the restricted and unrestricted budget. He then gave the multi-year projections. This included COLA versus actual dollars, unrestricted funds, restricted funds, and the ending fund balance.

 

At the end of the presentation, Craig gave a recommendation of a positive certification for the second interim financial support.

 

 

The district will hold their next board meeting on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, in the district board room and via Zoom.
