South Whittier School District held their monthly Board meeting on Tuesday, September 13, at the District office.
The meeting was held both in-person and via Zoom. At this meetings the Board and attendees were able to hear the presentation of Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year, 2021-2022 unaudited actuals, measure QS update, and a student achievement report.
2022-2023 Teacher of the Year
South Whittier School District was proud to acknowledge the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year, Carmela first grade teacher, Silvia Bobluk.
Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Ayala, shared some of the heartfelt nominations that Ms. Bobluk received. Carmela principal, Ms. Hartl, also shared why Ms. Bobluk is so deserving of this award sharing, “Silvia is a shining example of a natural born educator.”
Ms. Bobluk received a certificate and flowers from the District and was joined for this special recognition by her family and friends. Congratulations, Ms. Bobluk!
2022-2023 Classified Employee of the Year
South Whittier School District was proud to acknowledge the 2022-2023 Classified Employee of the Year, Loma Vista Health Clerk, Carmen Gonzalez.
Associate Superintendent of HR, Dr. Ayala, shared nominations that Ms. Gonzalez received for Classified Employee of the Year. Loma Vista principal, Ms. Carreon, also shared the great impact that Ms. Gonzalez has on the students, staff, and families at Loma Vista. Ms. Gonzalez has worked in SWSD for 42 years and has been a great impact in the schools she has served.
Ms. Gonzalez received a certificate and flowers from the District and her family was also in attendance to celebrate her recognition. Congratulations, Ms. Gonzalez!
2021-2022 Unaudited Actuals
Associate Superintendent of Business Services, Aubrey Craig, gave a presentation regarding the District’s 2021-2022 unaudited actuals.
During the presentation he shared the timeline in which financial data closes, is audited, approved, and adopted. He then went on to share the general fund revenues and expenditures, and gave insight into estimated actuals versus unaudited actuals.
Mr. Craig closed the presentation with next steps, sharing what the Board can expect moving forward, future planning, and when audits will take place.
Measure QS Update
Associate Superintendent of Business Services, Aubrey Craig, gave a presentation sharing Bond Measure QS project updates.
He shared with the Board and attendees what projects have been completed using these funds. These projects included improvements at every SWSD school site and the district office. Improvements included new HVAC, flooring, parking lots, paint, carpet and more.
Mr. Craig also shared future projects that are in the works and the work on those projects will be done outside instructional time, after hours and on weekends.
Student Achievement Report
Associate Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Rodriguez, and Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Parent Engagement, Dr. Mendoza, gave a student achievement update.
They began the presentation by sharing the timeline of which students participated in CAASPP testing. They then went on to share data regarding student achievement. This included all student data for ELA and math. The data showed the percentage of students who did not meet standard, nearly met standard, met standard, and exceeded standard. The data for English Learners was shared as well.
The Board and attendees also got to see how test scores have been impacted in our district as well as surrounding districts post pandemic. Lastly, the presentation was concluded with the action plan moving forward in order to assure that all students succeed. This included cognitive guided instruction, multi-tiered systems of support, commentates of practice, instructional coaching, and more.
The District will hold their next board meeting on Tuesday, October 18, in the district board room and via Zoom.
