South Whittier School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, January 18, at the district office.
This meeting was held both in-person and via Zoom. Attendees were able to hear a presentation regarding the changes in South Whittier’s trustee area map.
Adjusted Trustee Area Map
The board heard a presentation from Cooperate Strategies and Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP regarding the redistricting and adjustment of South Whittier’s trustee area map.
The school district is divided into trustee areas and a school board member is elected from each trustee area. These board members are only elected by registered voters in the particular trustee area where the governing board member resides.
Each trustee area must assure that the population in each area is as nearly as equal as practical. According to the 2020 Census, there was a population decrease of 841 residence which caused the trustee map to be unbalanced and adjustments must be made.
The proposed adjusted map was presented to the board and the map only required a small adjustment of one census block to bring the map into balance.
