South Whittier School District will be expanding their meal distribution beginning Monday, April 27, in hopes to boost their participation in their community during this unchartered time.
The district has been providing grab-and-go breakfast and lunches but will now be adding supper as well. The district is also expanding who they give meals out to and are welcoming all children from the ages 4 to 18 years old and plans on opening Carmela Elementary as their third meal distribution site.
“The State has approved the District's use of the Seamless Summer Program which opens up the chance for all students 4 to 18 to receive free meals,” Chief Business Officer, Mark Keriakous, shared.
“We are glad to have this opportunity to continue to serve our community during this time. We strongly encourage all families with students 4 to 18 years old to pick up meals from our sites.”
Meal pick-ups have been taking place at Loma Vista Elementary and Graves Middle School but Carmela Elementary will be the district’s third site beginning April 27.
Grab-and-go meals can be picked up every Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
