Loma Vista Elementary Hosts Coffee With The Principal

Loma Vista Elementary hosted a Coffee With the Principal event at their school on Friday, April 12, to share important information with parents regarding upcoming test assessments and events. The event also gave parents an opportunity to ask questions and discuss important topics and concerns.

Loma Vista principal, Kristine Carreon, and site Community Liaison, Theresa Melgoza, hosted the event for parents. They began the meeting with coffee and refreshments and welcomed attendees.

“We have a list here of topics we will discuss, but remember this is your meeting,” Mrs. Carreon shared. “So please let me know if there is anything else you want to talk about or any questions you may have.”

Mrs. Carreon and Mrs. Melgoza opened the presentation by sharing with parents about the upcoming ELPAC, or English Language Proficiency Assessment. They shared that the assessment measures student progress toward meeting the California English Language Development Standards. They explained what type of questions would be on the test, how to read their child’s test results, and how they can help their child prepare for the test.

They then shared important changes regarding their Parent Portal. They gave a demonstration on how parents can utilize it and shared that next year all student information, including which class and teacher their student will have, will only be available on the Parent Portal. There will no longer be a class list posted in efforts to keep important student information confidential.

The presentation then went on to give parents important dates and events that included the Resource Fair that will be taking place on Saturday, May 4. They also shared information about joining the PTA and upcoming PTA events.

The event closed with each parent getting a paper to write down suggestions, concerns, or things they’ve noticed. Parents were able to discuss these suggestions with the principal and have an open forum with all attendees.

The whole presentation was given in both English and Spanish in order to accommodate the needs of everyone who attended.
