The Kids On The Block Puppet Show Teaches Los Altos Students About Bullying and School Safety

The Kids on the Block educational puppet troupe visited Los Altos Elementary school on Friday, February 15, to educate students about bullying and to promote school safety.

The puppet show is designed to create awareness about bullying and to help students with problem solving strategies. The show explained what bullying was and encouraged empathy towards others who may be struggling with being bullied. Aside from awareness, the show also discussed strategies that could help prevent bullying and how “getting involved” does not necessarily mean confronting a bully.

Students also learned and interacted with the show when the topic of school safety was addressed. The program discussed that being bullied should not bring any shame or embarrassment on a student and that even as students, they can help make their school safer. They talked about developing a volunteer student committee that can put together a school safety plan. They also interacted with students to brainstorm other ways they can help promote safety at their school.

Kids on the Block is a puppet show that is performed, organized, and sponsored by The Assistance League of Whittier. The Assistance League of Whittier supports children, schools, and families all through out the Whittier area. They help provide educational programs and many different resources for students and their families.
