The South Whittier School District holds students and staff to rigorous standards in order to prepare every scholar for 21st Century success in college and the workforce, within a safe and supportive environment. Our students are challenged to reach their full potential and develop their curiosity and thirst for discovery. Our district celebrates our families’ diverse traditions, cultures, and languages as foundations for learning.

We believe:

All students can learn.

Students learn best when they are engaged in challenging and appropriate learning focused on the core academic subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies integrated with physical education and the fine arts.

Quality teachers are the single greatest predictor of student success.

The diversity and uniqueness of each student should be respected.

Students learn best when families value education, and teach their children to accept increasing responsibility for their own learning.

Quality education improves the quality of life for students, their families, and the community now and in the future.

Superintendent's Message

Welcome to the South Whittier School District. I am so proud and honored to be the Superintendent of such a fine organization that focuses on providing a positive learning environment where students can explore and flourish as they prepare for college and the competitive work force that they will face as adults in the 21st Century. Students are encouraged by our highly trained and dedicated staff to think creatively and to work collaboratively with their peers to solve problems. We believe in "thinking big" and making the seemingly impossible, possible. I am very excited about the year ahead as we implement the common core state standards in English Language Arts, unwrap our new math series, explore the Next Generation Science Standards, and infuse the arts, technology and physical activity back into our daily schedules. I hope to see many of you at our school sites and district events throughout the year. As we partner together with the common goal of doing what is best for our kids I wish you all a very happy and productive year.

Gail Baxter, Superintendent
