South Whittier School District has announced Olegario Acosta as its Teacher of the Year for the 2026–2027 school year, honoring more than two decades of dedication to the district's students and families.

A member of the South Whittier community for over 20 years, Acosta has built a reputation as an educator who brings genuine passion to the classroom every single day. Colleagues and administrators alike point to his enthusiasm for teaching and his deep connection with students as qualities that set him apart.

Acosta currently serves as a leader in the district's Dual Immersion program, where he plays an instrumental role in shaping bilingual education for South Whittier students. His teaching style is marked by versatility and warmth, one moment he might be leading an engaging classroom lesson, and the next he can be found outside on the field, playing soccer alongside his students during recess.

That balance of academic rigor and genuine personal connection has made Acosta a natural favorite among students, who consistently respond to his energy and approachability.

During the announcement, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Marti Ayala, praised Acosta for the heart, energy, and commitment he brings to South Whittier every day, noting that the recognition was well earned after years of dedicated service to the school community.
