SWSD Families Attend Transitional Kinder & Kindergarten Orientations

Parents of incoming transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students attended orientation Wednesday, August 8, to acquire about what to expect their student to learn in the upcoming school year.

Orientation took place at every elementary school in the district that offers transitional kindergarten, or known as TK, and kindergarten programs. Principals, TK, and kindergarten teachers all shared with parents about the academic and behavioral expectations for students and shared about various parts of the TK and kindergarten programs for the 2018 through 2019 school year.

Teachers shared with parents the difference in curriculum from the TK program and kindergarten program. The difference in curriculum is academically appropriate to each program. In addition to academics, teachers focus on nurturing the physical, social, and emotional development of all students.

Teachers then encouraged parents and guardians to be involved in their student’s education. They suggested ways that parents and guardians can support and assist their students at home to assure student progress and academic success.

After the orientation, Los Altos had ice cream for all parents and future students.

South Whittier School District is excited to welcome all of these new families to the SWSD community!
