Lake Marie Holds Diversity Assembly to Celebrate Differences

Lake Marie Elementary held a diversity assembly on Friday, April 11th, to celebrate diversity and how it strengthens our community.

The assembly began with students breaking up into groups. Each group had one student from each grade level, with sixth graders being the group leader. Every student in the group brought their class project with them. Each grade level had completed a lesson and project in their class that week that focused on diversity and what made them unique.

Grade levels did projects that focused on their families and origins, diverse traditions and backgrounds, abilities, and more. While in their group, each student had an opportunity to share about the lesson their class focused on and share their project. Other members were able to ask questions and talk about what they shared.

After the students shared, Ms. Sinde, Lake Marie’s instructional coach, spoke to them about the importance of celebrating differences. She talked about appreciating diversity and how it is essential in creating a welcoming and inclusive school environment. She shared how different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives develop empathy, respect, and a stronger sense of community. She ended the school assembly by encouraging kindness so Lake Marie could have a positive school culture where everyone could thrive.
