PRESENTATION: Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs (ELOP), Parent Engagement and Universal TK (UPK)

The first presentation of the meeting was presented by Associate Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Rebecca Rodriguez, on Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs, Parent Engagement and Universal TK.

The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) provides funding for afterschool and summer school enrichment programs for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade. Through this funding, SWSD has partnered with The Boys & Girls Club of Whittier and Think Together to offer students a variety of programs and enrichment opportunities. Some of these programs and opportunities include before and after-school programs, High Dosage Tutoring, Saturday Academy, attendance recovery, and much more.

Dr. Rodriguez went on to share about the variety of engagement opportunities that have been and are provided to SWSD parents and families. This includes annual district-wide events like the Title 1 Conference, ongoing parent education classes like technology classes, bridge, and others, and lastly site-specific opportunities.

Lastly, Dr. Rodriguez spoke about Universal TK and the implementation process for the program. She also highlighted how the district has been preparing and advertising for the program.

PRESENTATION: Second Interim Report

The final presentation of the meeting was a Second Interim Report presented by the Associated Superintendent of Business Services, Aubrey Craig.

Craig presented the financial position of the district as of January 31, 2024. In this report, he shared the revenue and expenditure assumptions for both restricted and unrestricted budgets. He gave a comparison from the first interim report to this second interim report and provided multi-year projections of the district’s budget.

The district will hold their next board meeting on Tuesday, April 16, at the district office and via Zoom.
