December Board Meeting Recap

South Whittier School District held their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, December 14, at the district office. 

 

Attendees, both in-person and on Zoom, were able to hear the election of Officers for the SWSD Board, a prestigious award given to McKibben Elementary, and a presentation from business services.

 

Nomination and Election of Officers and Appointment of Secretary to the Board of Trustees

 

The Board appointed Offers and the Secretary to the Board of Trustees. 

 

Board member titles are now as follows:

President - Natalia Barajas

Vice President - Elias Alvarado

Clerk - Sylvia Macias

Member - Deborah Pacheco

Member - Jan Baird

Secretary of the Board - Superintendent, Dr. Gonzales

 

McKibben Elementary awarded “Best Elementary Schools” by US News and World Report

 

Howard J. McKibben Elementary has been recognized by US News and World Report as being a “Best Elementary School.”

 

This prestigious award is given based on school performance on state-required tests. McKibben ranked #1559 out of 47,392 schools in California. 

 

This award is given strictly based on data. At Mckibben Elementary, 45% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 53% scored at or above that level for reading. According to the US News and World Report, Mckibben Elementary did better in math and better in reading in this metric compared with students across the state. In California, 47% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 39% tested at or above that level for math.

2021-2022 First Interim Presentation

 

Associate Superintendent of Business Services, Aubrey Craig, gave a presentation sharing the 2021-2022 first interim report. 

 

This report presents information on the District’s financial position as of October 2021. Mr. Craig shared where the District currently is in the budget reporting cycle. He then presented District revenue assumptions and expenditure assumptions to the board. He then moved to reporting on the budget year financial status and multi-year projections where he showed funds and gave the ending balance components. 

 

Lastly, he closed the presentation by providing next steps which included identifying needed budget adjustments for the budget stabilization plan and projections for the years 2022-2023.
