PBIS in South Whittier

word cloud
In SWSD, we commit to prioritizing and sustaining the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to improve school culture and enhance academic excellence, behavioral and social-emotional development for our students.

We hope to create a trauma-responsive climate where staff collaboratively foster consistent, predictable, and safe learning environments. We will build capacity amongst staff through ongoing professional development.

Our ultimate goal is to nurture a lasting positive and equitable school climate that supports our students’ social emotional growth and academic achievement so that they will be prepared and successful in their futures.

All schools implement Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports to teach school-wide expectations and respond to behavior.

What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Educators and practitioners provide a continuum of academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support matched to students’ needs. We describe this continuum across three tiers of support.
